Hot maple syrup recipe
Maple syrup is a wonderfully versatile sweetener. We associate it most readily with waffles and pancakes, and it is also relied upon in countless baking recipes, but what about maple syrup served hot?
Before you scratch your head, this is not a simple case of hot maple syrup on pancakes – it’s a spicy maple syrup concoction which works wonderfully with pizza, fried chicken or waffles. Allow us to introduce hot spiced maple syrup
This tangy, fiery, tasty treat will give you a delectable kick for all manner of comfort food, and the ingredients are dead simple; you only need pure maple syrup, cayenne pepper, and paprika.
Ingredients
– ¾ cup Grade A amber maple syrup (https://puremaple.co.uk/product/new-organic-amber-rich-pure-maple-syrup-236ml) or dark pure maple syrup
– ¼ tsp cayenne pepper (you may add up to ½ tsp if you require more heat
– ¼ tsp paprika
Instructions
1. Put it all together
Simply combine all three ingredients in a saucepan, and mix them with a spoon or fork until the texture is consistent.
2. Get cooking
We aren’t looking for high or intense heat here. Whether you are using a gas or electric stove, you just need to simmer over a low heat setting for no more than 5 minutes.
Make sure you don’t leave the stove’s sight – keep stirring continually with a wooden spoon. Do not… we repeat, do not… let the syrup boil (because this can turn the mixture into a caramel, and that’s not what we are looking for!).
3. Strain it & store it
Now we are getting close to the final product. All that remains is to remove the saucepan from the heat, before straining the hot syrup.
To strain the syrup, you can use either a standard coffee filter or fine mesh sieve. What this will do is remove the spice grit or residue. If you want an extra kick and like the texture, you might like to leave the big bits of seasoning in.
You’re done… just put your hot spiced maple syrup in an airtight container, and it will last for up to six months in the fridge.
