Maple syrup delivery stops traffic in West Virginia

Organic maple syrup was reported to be the indirect cause of a traffic jam in the US state of West Virginia.

Harrison County in West Virginia was the scene of an accident that involved the jackknifing of a lorry carrying maple syrup along a busy motorway.

No fewer than three fire departments attended the incident. Police confirmed that none of the maple syrup had spilled. More importantly, nobody is known to be hurt as a result of the crash.

According to the WBOY 12 media platform:

“The Lost Creek, Stonewood and Jane Lew fire departments responded to the scene alongside Anmoore EMS and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office. No injuries have been reported as of this publication.”

While not as renowned for maple syrup production as the New England states of Vermont and Maine, West Virginia’s neighbour, the state of Virginia, does have its own maple syrup industry. The mountainous Highland County, located near the West Virginia border, is home to over 30 farms and several sugar camps.

The area celebrates its product annually at the Highland County Maple Festival, which will take place from Saturday 13th to Sunday 14th and Saturday 20th to Sunday 21st, March 2027.

Visitors can look forward to over 100 arts and crafts vendors, and sugar camp tours that offer a glimpse into the traditional techniques of maple syrup production. Food on offer at 2026’s event included maple treats and all-you-can-eat pancake and buckwheat cake meals.
