Maple syrup tea launched for Canada Day

A Vancouver tea company recently launched a limited-edition maple syrup tea to mark Canada Day.

Canada Day was celebrated on July 1st, giving food and beverage marketers all manner of opportunities for spin-off products.

JustTea catered to the taste of the country’s most cherished sweetener. Its Canadian maple tea combines whole-leaf Kenyan black tea with Canadian maple syrup flakes.

The result is an infusion of natural maple and the rich, caramel-like flavour that lovers of organic Canadian maple syrup from around the world will be familiar with.

Paul Bain, founder of JustTea, said:

“Using real Canadian maple syrup flakes in a tea that’s already farmer-direct from Kenya felt like the perfect expression of who we are, a small Canadian company that’s built something meaningful on both sides of the world. And honestly, maple makes everything better.”

Maple flavoured teas aren’t new to the market, but many products opt to mimic the taste using artificial ingredients. JustTea are hoping to differentiate themselves from these producers by using natural ingredients.

Containing 50mg per cup, the tea contains around half the caffeine in a typical black coffee. The manufacturer recommends steeping the bags for three minutes, and suggests that in the height of summer, customers might like to make an iced tea for themselves.

Canada Day was celebrated all over the country with parades, festivals and barbecues, as well as around the world by Canadians living abroad. Many Canadians get into the spirit of the occasion by dressing in the flag’s red and white colours.
