French Apple and Maple Tart Recipe
This is a simple dessert that can be made in very little time and still looks impressive. All you need are a few apples, ready made puff pastry, maple syrup, a little icing sugar, and some flaked almonds. It is delicious served with vanilla ice cream.
Ingredients
- 2 apples, thinly sliced
- Juice of half a lemon
- 240g ready made puff pastry
- Plain flour, for dusting
- 3 tablespoons Pure Maple Syrup, Amber Rich
- Handful of flaked almonds, optional
- Icing sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200C, 180C fan, or Gas Mark 6. Line a large baking tray. Roll out the pastry on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle about 24cm by 28cm and transfer it to the tray. Score a 2.5cm border around the edge with a sharp knife. Place in the fridge while preparing the apples.
- Core the apples and slice them thinly. Place them in a large bowl, add the lemon juice, and toss to coat.
- Remove the pastry from the fridge and brush some of the maple syrup over the surface, reserving a little for later.
- Arrange the apple slices neatly over the pastry and sprinkle with the flaked almonds if using.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the apples are tender and the pastry is crisp and golden.
- Allow the tart to cool slightly, then brush with the remaining maple syrup and dust with icing sugar before serving.
