French Apple and Maple Tart Recipe

This is a simple dessert that can be made in very little time and still looks impressive. All you need are a few apples, ready made puff pastry, maple syrup, a little icing sugar, and some flaked almonds. It is delicious served with vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 2 apples, thinly sliced
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • 240g ready made puff pastry
  • Plain flour, for dusting
  • 3 tablespoons Pure Maple Syrup, Amber Rich
  • Handful of flaked almonds, optional
  • Icing sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200C, 180C fan, or Gas Mark 6. Line a large baking tray. Roll out the pastry on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle about 24cm by 28cm and transfer it to the tray. Score a 2.5cm border around the edge with a sharp knife. Place in the fridge while preparing the apples.
  2. Core the apples and slice them thinly. Place them in a large bowl, add the lemon juice, and toss to coat.
  3. Remove the pastry from the fridge and brush some of the maple syrup over the surface, reserving a little for later.
  4. Arrange the apple slices neatly over the pastry and sprinkle with the flaked almonds if using.
  5. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the apples are tender and the pastry is crisp and golden.
  6. Allow the tart to cool slightly, then brush with the remaining maple syrup and dust with icing sugar before serving.
