Maple Garlic Sauce Recipe
A savoury, sweet and sticky condiment, maple garlic sauce is extremely versatile. It can serve as a marinade, a glaze, a stir-fry base or even a dipping sauce. It pairs perfectly with a range of meat, vegetarian and vegan bites, from ribs and wings to vegetables and meat alternatives based on pea protein or soya. A Canadian twist on honey garlic sauce, maple garlic sauce is ideal when you want a gluten-free stand-in. It is also extremely simple and swift to make and requires very few ingredients.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 120 millilitres of pure maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon of dry mustard powder
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 3 tablespoons of either tamari (gluten-free) or soy sauce
Additional extras
For extra seasoning, try adding a pinch of dried rosemary or, for a kick, a teaspoon of cayenne pepper.
Instructions
Making maple garlic sauce is an easy process involving some super-fast preparation and a brief cooking time.
Preparation
Begin by adding the measured soy sauce (or tamari for a gluten-free recipe), mustard powder and maple syrup to a small bowl, then set it to one side. Dark robust maple syrup has a richer, deeper and more concentrated maple caramel taste. This makes it ideal for the sauce, as its flavour won’t be lost among the punchier flavours of the garlic, soy sauce and butter.
At this stage, you can also add your extra seasoning and spices as required.
Cooking
Place a small saucepan over a medium heat, add your butter and allow it to melt. Next, add the minced garlic cloves and sauté them for a minute until they become aromatic. You can now add your soy-maple mixture and whisk all your ingredients in the pan for at least three minutes. Afterwards, reduce the heat and keep your maple garlic sauce warm until you are ready to use it.
Now that your sauce is finished, you can serve it as a dip with light bites, create a glaze or marinade for grilled meats or roasted vegetables, or add it to a stir-fry dinner.
