Ingredients

  • 1 boneless turkey breast roast that has been fully thawed
  • Half a cup of pure maple syrup (add more to taste).
  • Alternatively, you can use ready-made authentic maple syrup butter or make one of your own using golden delicate maple syrup.
  • Half a teaspoon of salt
  • Half a teaspoon of pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of ground paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • Half a teaspoon of garlic powder
  • Half a teaspoon of crushed dried thyme
  • Half a teaspoon of onion powder
  • A pinch of cayenne pepper

Instructions

Maple syrup glazed turkey is a three-step recipe which involves, preparing, glazing and roasting.

Preparation

Begin by preheating your oven to 165°C.

Remove all wrapping from the turkey except the string and rinse it, drying it with paper towel.

Glazing

In a bowl, mix the maple syrup (or maple butter), herbs and seasoning together ensuring they have combined well. Now using a pastry brush, apply your syrup mixture on the turkey roast, making sure you get complete coverage.

Roasting

Place the turkey skin side up, in a roasting pan on a baking rack. Now roast it in the oven, occasionally basting, until the turkey turns golden brown. Insert a meat thermometer into its centre to ensure it reads 75 degrees C before removing it from the oven.

Now wrap the turkey in foil and allow it to stand for about 10 minutes. You can then remove the string, slice it and serve with a selection of seasonal vegetables and gravy.
