Maple Apple Tart Recipe
Indulge in a slice of this delicious maple apple tart. A delightful dessert that combines the simplicity of apples with the earthy sweetness of maple syrup.
Ingredients
- 200g ready made puff pastry
- 6 apples
-
5 tablespoons Pure Maple Syrup, Amber Rich
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- Juice of 1/2 a lemon
- 50g unsalted butter, cubed
- 1 egg yolk, beaten
- Icing sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C or 180°C fan, Gas Mark 6. Line a baking tray with greaseproof paper. Roll out the pastry and, using a dinner plate as a guide, cut a large round. Crimp the edges and refrigerate while you prepare the apples.
- Make the stewed apple filling. Peel 2 apples and chop into small pieces. Add to a saucepan with 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1 tablespoon water, and 2 tablespoons maple syrup. Stew for 5 to 10 minutes until soft, then mash and set aside to cool. Meanwhile, peel the remaining apples and slice thinly, placing them in a large bowl of water with the remaining lemon juice to prevent browning.
- Drain the sliced apples, pat dry with paper towel, then place in a large bowl. Add 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 3 tablespoons maple syrup, then mix well to coat.
- Spread a couple of tablespoons of the cooled stewed apple onto the pastry. Starting at the outer edge, arrange the apple slices in overlapping circles working towards the centre. Dot the butter cubes over the apples. Brush the crimped pastry edge with the beaten egg yolk, then bake for 30 minutes until the pastry is risen and golden.
- Cool on a wire rack. Dust with icing sugar and serve with cream.
