Refined Sugar Free Flapjacks
We made these gorgeous flapjacks using only pure maple syrup as a natural sweetener. As an extra treat, they are finished with a drizzle of salted maple caramel. After many requests for the recipe, we are pleased to share it here.
Ingredients
- 250g rolled oats
- 125g unsalted butter
- 180g pure maple syrup, dark robust
Salted Maple Caramel Sauce (optional)
- 125ml double cream
- 25g unsalted butter
- 250g pure maple syrup, dark robust
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180C, or 160C for a fan oven. Line a 17cm x 17cm tin with parchment paper.
- Gently heat the butter in a saucepan until melted. Remove from the heat, add the maple syrup and oats, and mix well.
- Tip the mixture into the prepared tin and use the back of a spoon to flatten and smooth the surface.
- Bake for about 30 minutes until golden brown.
- To make the caramel sauce, place the cream, butter and maple syrup into a clean saucepan and bring to the boil.
- Reduce the heat and whisk continuously until the sauce thickens, about 10 minutes. Add salt to taste and set aside.
- Remove the flapjacks from the oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes, then mark out 12 portions.
- Leave to cool completely before cutting into bars and drizzle with the salted maple caramel sauce.
