Three Porridge Recipes

September is just around the corner and porridge is one of the best breakfasts to start the day. It is filling, comforting, and delicious when sweetened with pure maple syrup.

These three easy porridge recipes are Spiced Apple with Maple, Carrot Cake with Maple, and Banana and Peanut Butter with Maple. Each recipe makes one adult portion or two small children’s portions.

Base Ingredients

Spiced Apple Porridge Ingredients

  • 1 small apple, finely grated, with a few slices reserved for topping
  • 20g sultanas
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon mixed spice
  • Splash of cream
  • Handful of pecans

Carrot Cake Porridge Ingredients

  • 1 small carrot, peeled and finely grated
  • 20g sultanas
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • Handful of walnuts

Peanut Butter and Banana Porridge Ingredients

  • ½ banana, sliced
  • Peanut butter, for drizzling
  • 1 teaspoon mixed seeds

Instructions

Spiced Apple Porridge

  1. Place the oats, milk, grated apple, spices and sultanas into a saucepan over a medium heat.
  2. Simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring regularly, until thick and creamy.
  3. Serve topped with apple slices, pecans, a splash of cream and maple syrup.

Carrot Cake Porridge

  1. Place the oats, milk, grated carrot, sultanas, cinnamon and nutmeg into a saucepan over a medium heat.
  2. Simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring regularly, until thick and creamy.
  3. Serve with walnuts and maple syrup.

Peanut Butter and Banana Porridge

  1. Place the oats and milk into a saucepan over a medium heat.
  2. Simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring regularly, until thick and creamy.
  3. Serve topped with sliced banana, peanut butter, mixed seeds and maple syrup.
