Vegan Apple Crumble Recipe

The perfect comfort food. This vegan apple crumble is a delicious treat for the whole family, with a crunchy toasted topping and maple sweetened apples.

Ingredients

  • Crumble topping
  • 175g plain flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 100g dairy free spread
  • 75g demerara sugar
  • 60g flaked almonds
  • Filling
  • 1kg Granny Smith apples
  • 1 tablespoon dairy free spread
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of ground nutmeg

  • 75g Pure Maple Syrup, Amber Rich

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C, Fan 160C, Gas Mark 4.
  2. In a bowl, mix the flour, cinnamon and sugar. Add the dairy free spread and rub in with your fingers until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the almonds, spread the mixture onto a baking tray and bake for 15 minutes, turning halfway through, until lightly toasted.
  3. Peel, quarter and core the apples, then cut each quarter into thirds. Melt the dairy free spread in a shallow pan over a medium heat. Add the apples, spices and a tablespoon of water. Cook for about 10 minutes, adding the maple syrup halfway through, until the apples are tender.
  4. Transfer the apples to a 28cm oval heatproof dish. Top with the toasted crumble and bake for a further 15 to 20 minutes. Serve warm with vegan vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of maple syrup.
