Native American farm announces thousands of new maple trees

A maple farm on federally-recognised Native American lands has pledged to plant 16,000 maple trees over the next three years, in response to record demand.

The Wahta Maple Farm – located on the land of the Oneida Indian Nation in upstate New York – made the commitment on the back of a record sugaring season this year, during which its team tapped a total of 6,700 trees – 550 more than in 2025.

In a statement, the Oneida Indian Nation said:

“Wahta Maple Farm will build upon this historic season and the Nation’s long legacy of environmental stewardship with its three-year plan to expand the sugarbush with thousands of new super sweet maple trees.”

A new tree planting tool will be put into action for the project, which will allow two people to plant 1,000 trees per day. Long protective tubes will be used to prevent damage from wildlife without the use of chemicals.

Wahta Maple Farm doesn’t just produce 100% pure maple syrup – it packages and markets a number of products sold around the area – including infused syrup, maple cream and candies. While items from the farm are popular, the home of maple syrup production worldwide is north of the border in Quebec, Canada.

One location where their products can be found is the Turning Stone Resort Casino’s The General Store. The Turning Stone Resort is noted for having hosted several big boxing fights over the years, featuring legends such as Mike Tyson, Oscar De La Hoya, and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
